This project was inspired by an insightful question posed by one of my students, Dave, during our initial lesson. At the conclusion of that session, he inquired, "What are the foundational concepts that guide your lesson design?" While I had a response at the time, I felt it could have been more comprehensive. This prompted me to create a detailed guide intended not only for my students but also for everyone who is enthusiastic about learning English.
As someone fluent in both English and Chinese, I have observed firsthand how the absence of a shared language can lead to misunderstandings and, at times, conflict. In my role as an ESL/EFL teacher, my primary objective is to foster an environment that encourages professional growth and enhances English proficiency for my students. However, beyond this, I firmly believe that by facilitating English language learning—the world's de facto lingua franca—we can contribute to a more harmonious global community where individuals communicate effectively and appreciate diverse perspectives.
