Tim & Kasumi

Welcome to Tim & Kasumi! We are a mom-and-pop online language teaching practice based in the United States.
 
Our journey began with me teaching Chinese international students English in Richmond, Virginia, in the summer of 2012. Although it started as a part-time job at my alma mater, the sense of achievement from seeing my students succeed in school inspired me to become a full-time Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) teacher.
 
In 2014, I went to Chengdu, Sichuan, China, to visit my grandparents. While there, I met and fell in love with Kasumi, prompting me to stay in Chengdu longer than initially planned.
 
After teaching English in Chengdu for about a year, I noticed that many learners had difficulties finding a place to practice their spoken English. Thus, with the help of my friends and students, I started hosting weekly English discussions, dubbed 'Tim's English Corner.'
 
In the same year, we officially started Tim and Kasumi, where we taught English and Japanese in our studio near the now-defunct Consulate General of the United States in Chengdu.
 
In 2017, after getting married, we decided to move back to the US.
 
Now, we live in Chesapeake, Virginia, focusing on providing English lessons to students whose first language is Chinese. We believe that language learning should be both delightful and stimulating. Most importantly, we hope the world becomes our students' oysters by helping them develop their English proficiency in an encouraging and professional environment.

我们的旅程始于2012年夏，那时我在弗吉尼亚州里士满市为中国留学生辅导英语。虽然最初这只是一份在母校的兼职工作，但学生们在学业上的成功给我带来了莫大的成就感，从而激励我成为一名全职的对外英语教师。

2014年，在我去四川成都看望我的祖父母时，我与Kasumi相识并相爱，促使我延迟了回美国的原计划。

在成都大概教了一年英语之后，我注意到学习者们很难找到一个可以练习口语的地方。因此，在朋友与学生们的帮助下，我开始举办每周一次的英语角。

同年，我们正式在前成都美领馆附近创办了Tim and Kasumi工作室，以便于我们教授英语与日语。

2017年，我们在结婚后决定搬回美国。
 

现在，我们居住于弗吉尼亚州切萨皮克市，专注于为第一语为汉语的学生们提供英语教学。我们坚信语言习得应该是愉悦且有启发性的。最重要的是，我们希望通过帮助我们的学生在一个正面且专业的环境里学习英语，让我们的学生能够在生活、学习、以及工作上获得更好的机会与发展前景。
